I thought the shooting at Westroads was too close to home, but what greets me on my homepage today?  This.   That's it.  I'm never leaving my apartment again.  The world is full of homicidal maniacs with guns.

I live here.  I may not be religious, I may not agree with the politics of New Life Church, but people, all people, should be safe going to any church they please.  Just as they should be safe doing their Christmas shopping.  Or going to school.  Or any of the other places that have made the news over the years thanks to people whose idea of fame is killing other people.  I don't care why this happened, I don't care what this person or persons thought they were doing.  I doubt if their reasoning would make any sense to me even if they did try to explain.

Human life has value, damn it.  Life is not something you snuff out to make a political statement or to go down in history.

Why is this happening?

My heart goes out to the congregation of New Life Church.  And my heart goes out to the friends and family of those killed in Denver.

Edit: The gunman here in Colorado Springs shot five people, killing one, before being shot by one of the church's armed security guards.  They still don't know whether this was related to the killings in Arvada.  They actually don't know much at this point. 

Edit2: A second victim in Colorado Springs died.

The two shootings were committed by the same person, who appears to have had a grudge against a missionary group which had a dorm in Arvada and an office at New Life - according to the latest information he'd wanted to be part of the group but was medically disqualified or something along those lines.  Reporting on this really hasn't been that good, but it sounds rather akin to a disgruntled employee shooting up the place he used to work.  Which is no more sensible than the other possibilities.

I feel bad for everyone involved.  I wish these things didn't happen.
