Terry Pratchett just reported that he has early onset Alzheimer's.  Which has to be one of the worst things an author could get.  (Like it isn't terrible when anyone gets it.)  This just really has not been a good year for fantasy authors.  Though, at least, as Pratchett himself says, he's not dead yet.
